Camping is a fun activity for a group of friends, a weekend getaway or a family vacation. Prices of campgrounds are very reasonable. Some campgrounds are labeled as resorts.
In New York State, you can find wilderness, lakeside and oceanside campsites.
There are 11 regions in New York and all regions have campgrounds. Many of the campsites are handicapped accessible meaning the campground is wheelchair friendly. Some have boating with boat launches. Some have full electrical hookups, others do not. Some are privately owned while others are state owned. There are a few nudist campgrounds. However, most are family oriented.
Amenities offered at campgrounds in New York State include fireplaces, toilets, dumping stations, electrical hookups, sewage hookups, boating, fishing, boat ramps, marinas, playgrounds, boat rentals, cabin rentals, recreational buildings, a store and/or laundry. Each campground is different and therefore offers different amenities.
Since there are over 500 or more campgrounds in New York State, it is impractical to list them all here. Instead, I have listed the Yogi Jellystone Park and KOA campsites. Included in this list with a sampling of the towns in each region of New York that have campsites.
The region with the most campgrounds is the Adirondacks. There are over 122 campgrounds in the Adirondacks. 34 are located in State Parks. Some are handicapped accessible. Most open in May. There is a KOA campground in Lake George, Natural Bridge and Wilmington near Lake Placid and Whiteface Mountain. The Yogi Bear's Jellystone Park campground is located at North Hudson
Long Island has over 17 campgrounds. 10 campgrounds are in State or County Parks. Most campsites on Long Island are handicapped accessible. 2 are opened all year round. Most of the campgrounds open in May. Towns on Long Island with campsites include Brookhaven, East Hampton, Greenport, Lido Beach, Mastic Beach, Ocean Beach and other towns.
The Hudson Valley has over 32 campgrounds. 5 campgrounds are open all year round. 6 campgrounds are located in State Parks. Many are handicapped accessible. Towns in the Hudson Valley with campgrounds include Accord, Fishkill, Gardiner, Rhinebeck, Saugerties, Stoney Point and other towns. The KOA campground is located in Plattekill and in Saugerties. The Yogi Bear's Jellystone Park campground is located in Gardiner.
The Catskills have over 57 campgrounds. 1 is open all year round. Most open in May. Over 8 campgrounds are locatd in State Parks. Towns that have campgrounds include Franklin, Acra, Barryville, Cairo, Davenport, Walton and other towns. The KOA campground in Franklin. The Yogi Bear's Jellystone Park campground is in Woodridge.
The Capital Saratoga Region has campgrounds. Some are handicapped assessible. 5 are located in State Parks. 1 is open all year round. Most open in May. Towns with campgrounds include Cambridge, Corinth, Galway, Hadley, Nassau, Northville, Saratoga Lake, Schenectady , Whitehall and other towns.
1000 Islands Seaway has over 69 campgrounds. 14 are located in State Parks. 3 are open all year round. Most open in May. Many are handicapped accessible. Towns with campgrounds include Amboy, Clayton, Hammond, Mexico, Oswego, Pulaski, Three Mile Bay, Henderson and other towns. The Yogi Bear's Jellystone Park campground is located in Mexico.
The Central Leatherstocking region has over 78 campgrounds. 9 are located in State Parks. 2 are open all year round. Most open in May.Towns with campgrounds include Boonville, Cooperstown, Gilboa, North Bay, Rome,Verona Beach, Windsor and other towns. The KOA campgroound is located in Richfield Springs and Unadilla. The Yogi Bear's Jellystone Park campground is located in Garrattsville.
The Finger Lakes have over 97 campgrounds. 12 are located in State Parks. Most open in May. 3 are Nudist campgrounds located in Candor, Locke and Moravia. Towns with campgrounds include Bath, Dansvile, Fair Haven, Ithaca, Seneca Falls, Watkins Glen, Wolcott and other towns. The KOA campground is located in Farmington and Watkins Glen.
The Greater Niagara Region has over 43 campgrounds. 3 are open all year round. Most open in May. 5 are located in State Parks. Towns with campgrounds include Akron, Barker, Darien Center, Grand Island, Le Roy, Lockport, Niagara Falls, Waterport and other towns. The KOA campground is located in Grand Island and Lewiston. The Yogi Bear's Jellystone Park campground is located in North Java.
Chautauqua Allegheny Region has over 44 campgrounds. 3 are located in State Parks. 3 are open all year round. Most open in May. Some are handicapped accessible. Towns with campgrounds include Andover, Belfast, Brocton, Cuba, Findley Lake, Franklinville, Houghton, Mayville, Westfield and other towns. The Lake Erie State Park campground is in Brocton. The KOA campground is in Westfield.
